This is the heart of the SAP system. In the classic three-tier model, this would be the logic or control layer. One or more application servers host the necessary services for the various applications at this layer. These application servers provide all the services required by the SAP applications. In theory, a single server could fill this role. In practice, these services are in most cases distributed among several servers, each serving different applications.

It is important that the associated approval processes can also be mapped and easily tracked. This brings convenience, flexibility and a degree of freedom without neglecting operational security. The integration of the business departments can relieve the IT administrator and turn background processing into an end-to-end process integrated into the organization.
The basic SAP Basis operation includes the operational readiness of the SAP system, management of system changeability, configuration and administration of system profiles, analysis of system failures, operation and monitoring of technical interfaces, scheduling and monitoring of SAP standard jobs, and much more. The optional services as an extension include activities whose implementation and frequency depends on the existing system environment and which can be optionally booked (client copies, implementation of client transports and homogeneous/heterogeneous system copies, etc.). These include performing release upgrades, installing enhancement packages, adapting new printer types, device drivers or character sets, and much more.
With "Shortcut for SAP Systems" a tool is available that greatly facilitates some tasks in the SAP basis.
A simpler option is to output the transactions used by the expert as a list and to obtain an overview of the task areas.
